Driving under the influence and other charges against a Cary man are being reviewed after his wife died when she fell off a golf cart her husband was driving on a road, police said. Patrick Botheroyd, 45, of the 28000 block of Bloners Road in Cary was driving the golf cart north on Riverside Drive in Cuba Township in unincorporated southwest Lake County when he made a left turn onto Bloners Road shortly before midnight Aug. 5, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
His wife, Janet, 45, fell off the golf cart and struck her head on the pavement, police said.
She was taken by the Cary Fire Protection District Rescue Squad to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington where she died.
She suffered severe head injuries. Patrick Botheroyd is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, causing great bodily harm and operating a golf cart on a road, police said.
Funeral services for Janet Botheroyd are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry.
She is also survived by her parents, a daughter, Michelle, and two brothers.
