What goes up…

Firefighters rescued a young man late Wednesday night after he stranded himself trying to climb a cliff near Middle Cove beach on the eastern-most tip of the province. The rescue went without a hitch. The department’s High Angle Rescue Team harnessed the man and lowered him to the beach below.

It’s typical for this time of year, said Craig Cox of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.

“People just go and they get to a point they can’t go any further,” said Cox.

“Like the guy last night. They think they can go all the way up (a cliff) and then they get stuck, and then they get a little bit nervous and then they just hold on tight.”

The man suffered no injuries except maybe a slight dent to his ego.
