Waldwick Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm House Fire

An approximately century old house in Waldwick was destroyed in a two alarm fire on June 18th. At 11:34, the Waldwick Fire Department was dispatched for a reported working house fire at 31 Hopper Street after the Waldwick P.D. received a message on SPEN of a structure fully involved. Units arrived to find the rear of a large 2 ½ story frame with heavy fire and extending to the main part of the house. A second alarm was quickly sounded and NORCON activated.

An interior attack was attempted, but members were driven back by the heat and flames. An exterior attack was commenced with Waldwick Tower 1 and Wycoff Tower 241 operating elevated master streams and several handlines were put into service. Heavy fire was knocked down in less than one hour, but companies continued to open up for an extended time. Wyckoff, Midland Park, Ho Ho Kus, Allendale, and Ramsey assisted at the scene, with others covering empty firehouses.

No serious injuries were reported, and the Bergen County Arson Squad is investigating.
