After a long investigation, a Long Island volunteer firefighter has been indicted of impersonating a New York Police Department officer and making false claims to the fire department about being employed by the NYPD.
According to WINS 1010, Mary Ortega has been on suspension by the Wading Rivers Volunteer Fire Department since May as the Department and criminal prosecutors investigated her claims that she was an NYPD officer.
Ortega is reported to have reported to shifts and responded to active scenes wearing a fake NYPD uniform, police shield, and ID badge.
She supposedly gave the fire chief fake documents from a local senator proclaiming she was an undercover officer for an NYPD vice unit.
Ortega has not given a reason why she impersonated the officer or went so far with the lie.
She was released and is scheduled to reappear in court in March.
