A volunteer firefighter died last night on his way to a suspicious apartment blaze in the city. David Kelty, 53, of Hamilton, was killed as the Bronco he was driving to the scene of a city fire slammed head-on into an SUV on the 1200 block of South Clinton Avenue a little before 9 p.m., said police spokesman Sgt. Pedro Medina.
Medina said the Bronco belonged to Signal 22 — a support staff company that gives firefighters warm refreshments when fighting fires and the cold.
Kelty worked in the radio shop of the cops’ communication center fixing police radios used in squad cars, Medina said.
Kelty, friends said, was also a volunteer firefighter with the Whitehorse Fire Company.
