Body-camera video captured two Virginia police officers and two citizens rescuing an unconscious woman from a burning vehicle after a crash early Friday morning.
The unidentified woman, approximately 57-years, was cut from the driver seat by officer Dalton Foley while officer Olivia Martin made certain that she was the only occupant in the vehicle.
“We’ll both be honest, we had a lot of fear, we’ve never dealt with anything like that so kind of in the back of your head, you’re scared, but you kind of have to put it down and have to go to work,” Officer Foley told ABC 8News.
With help from two nearby citizens they were able to carry the unconscious woman to safety just moments before the car was completely engulfed in flames.
“Fortunately we were within seconds of the fire. Thankfully, because had we gotten there a couple of minutes later, it may have been a different scenario.” Officer Martin said.
It’s believed that the woman fell asleep at wheel. She was flown to VCU Medical Center where she looks to make a full recovery.
