Video shows van leaving scene of brutal hit and run

MANATEE COUNTY — The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a driver after a young man was critically injured when his car rolled over multiple times in a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning.

According to the FHP, Jackson Maxwell Kelley, 19, of Bradenton was driving an Audi A3 north on U.S. 41 at about 7:45 a.m. when a Kia Sedona turned left in front of the Audi while attempting to turn into the RaceTrac gas station at 7259 14th St. W.

The left front of the Kia collided with the left rear of the Audi, causing the Audi to rotate and overturn multiple times into the parking lot of the Lantern Inn & Suites, where it struck a concrete wall and two parked vehicles. The Audi came to rest on its roof.

The Kia, described as a 2003 model with right front damage, fled the scene.

Kelley was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. It is not known if he was wearing a seat belt.

Anyone with information about the Kia driver or the crash is asked to call the FHP at 941-751-8350.
