A Georgia firefighter who caught a baby being dropped from the third floor of a burning building is being hailed as a heroine, in a blaze that displaced over 80 people in DeKalb County.
Captain Jackie Peckrul -who is a mother of three- was at the January 3 fire when a desperate family dropped the child from the third floor.
Firefighters released footage on Tuesday, depicting helmet-cam footage of the rescue.
“The only thing running through my mind… ‘Lord, let me catch this baby,'” said Peckrul.
As the baby fell, Peckrul reached out like never before.
“My hands came off the ladder and I got em,” she said, clutching the child.
According to FOX5Atlanta, other incredible rescues involved a woman being pulled from the building in a wheelchair.
For Peckrul, however, the rewards of a job well done are amplified when it involves saving a child.
“There’s no better feeling in the world,” Peckrul said, about saving the lives of people and especially children. “Never want to see any parent lose a child,” she said.
