Two trampers rescued by helicopter near Hamilton

SHARE

Two trampers were airlifted from the bush on Mount Pirongia, about 25km southwest of Hamilton, this morning. The trampers called police last night by cellphone from the top of Mount Pirongia to advise that one of them had injured his leg and was unable to walk out.

It was a six-hour tramp to get ground parties to the trampers so it was decided the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance would find them and airlift them to safety today.

The couple was found at their stated location where they had spent a cold night in their tent.
