Two FDNY trucks crash in separate accidents just blocks apart in Queens over weekend

More than a dozen people were injured in two separate crashes, just blocks apart, in Queens, New York over the weekend.

FDNY Engine 312 was racing to a fire on Sunday when it collided with an MTA bus along Ditmars Blvd. in Astoria.

The front bumper of the fire truck was completely mangled and the driver’s side windshield knocked out from the impact. The bus’ window was completely smashed up.

Two firefighters and 12 civilians were hurt in the accident – but none of them suffered life threatening injuries.

One passenger on the Metro bus says she was knocked unconscious.

“I was on the phone, and when I came back to it, I was on the other side of the bus,” Vanessa Torres said.

The fire chief on scene told CBS2  that even trucks have to stop at red lights.

A second rig – Engine 292- crashed about two blocks away that same afternoon. Witnesses say a woman in a blue sedan had to be treated by EMTs at the scene.

Luckily none of the injuries was very serious in either one of the accidents.
