Firefighters are battling a two-alarm brush fire in Carlsbad that ignited Wednesday morning.

Reports on Twitter indicated police had evacuated apartments in the area as well as a shopping center. Carlsbad fire officials and police officials could not be reached for comment.

The fire was reported along El Camino Real near Haymar Drive, according to a dispatcher for North County Dispatch JPA, commonly known as North Comm. She said firefighters from multiple agencies were “still actively fighting the fire” shortly after 11 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol said smoke and flames could be seen from state Route 78.

No other details were immediately available.
