SPRINGFIELD – The Fire Department rescued a man and his dog after they became mired in the mud Sunday morning.

There were no injuries in the incident, Capt. Drew Piemonte said in writing.

Firefighters responded for a water rescue at about 9 a.m. in the pond at Van Horn Park, off Armory Street, to find the man and his dog stuck in the mud.

They were able to remove the person and his pet by about 9:45 p.m., he said.
