At about 8:45 AM today Prince George’s County Firefighters and Paramedics were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Fire/EMS Units were dispatched to the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway/Route 95 between Branch Avenue and Saint Barnabas Road exits in Temple Hills. Typical of the normal traffic flow that time of day, vehicles were stopped in heavy congestion. A Ford Escape SUV approached the stopped traffic in the right hand lane at a significant rate of speed and collided with the rear end of Prince George’s County School Bus #9108. The collision was so forceful that the majority of the Ford SUV ended up underneath of the school bus which was forced forward and struck a work truck in front of the bus. The driver of the work truck was not injured. Twenty-two students, between the ages of 4 and 11, were on the bus and en route to the John Hanson Montessori School in Oxon Hill; the driver and students did not appear to have any injuries, however, they were transported to an area hospital for evaluation purely as a precautionary measure. The lone occupant of the Ford SUV, an adult male, sustained fatal injuries. The Beltway/Route 95 Inner-Loop remained closed until about 10:30 AM when two left hand lanes and the left shoulder lane were reopened. The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating the accident.
