Rocky Mount Firefighters make Quick Stop on Hotel Fire

On October 07, 2011 at 6:39 p.m., Rocky Mount NC Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at the Comfort Inn (200 Gateway Blvd). Companies arrived on scene to report a working fire on the 3rd floor. Heavy black smoke was emitting from an air conditioner at the base of the window from the room of origin. A quick exterior attack was made from the first due Ladder Company, which extinguished the fire. Crews from the 1st alarm response supported the automatic sprinkler system and assisted with evacuation of approximately 150 occupants. The fire was contained to and only damaged the room of origin. A total of 26 emergency personnel and 10 apparatus responded to the call. The building was supported with an automated fire alarm system, which worked correctly and alerted occupants of the event. This early notification significantly aided in the evacuation of the occupants.
