Two Jackson Township firefighters are accused of violating the township’s electronic communications policies. Mike Perry, a 12-year veteran, and Greg Richards, a 15-year veteran, were disciplined on May 16 after an audit said the men accessed pornographic material on township computers while on duty, NBC 4’s Lauren Crowner reported.
Perry was suspended for six days. Richards was fired because this was his second sexual misconduct offense in the last year, Crowner reported.
“It’s out of place for a public official to do something like this, or a public employee,” said Jackson Township Trustee Bill Lotz.
According to the township’s employee handbook, no person should use the Internet to transmit, download or view material that is obscene or pornographic.
The fighters contend they did not violate the policy, Crowner reported.
“They don’t think it was porn,” Lotz said. “They were just looking for bathing suits for their wives.”
