Firefighter Young was on the second floor of the firehouse and preparing to descend the sliding pole when he tripped and fell 12 feet to the floor below. Care was initiated and he was transported to the hospital.

He underwent multiple surgeries on his leg in the first month and his leg failed to heal.

On August 20, he was discovered at home with CVA like symptoms.

He was transported to the hospital where it had been determined that he suffered an aneurysm.

On August 22, 2005, life support measures were discontinued and he passed away a short time later.

Memorial donations may be made to the Delaware Volunteer Firemans Association Scholarship Fund.
