New York Mets minor league team starts brush fire with 4th of July fireworks display in Florida

A New York Mets minor league affiliate is sifting through the ashes after an Independence Day celebration went horribly wrong at their Florida Stadium.

The St.Lucie Mets’ fireworks show led to a serious fire beyond the outfield wall at the First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, conjuring memories of a similar fire in 2017.

According to the New York Post, the fireworks display was initiated following a 4-1 victory over the Daytona Tortugas.

Several trees were burned by the display, and the fires were captured by sports editor Michael Mayer, who posted the images to Twitter.
