Firefighters were forced to back out of a mansion fire in South Florida, leading to a total loss for the homeowner.
Coral Gables Fire Department Battalion Chief Alex Garces said the fire started in a second-floor bedroom, and multiple cars in the driveway made it hard for crews to get to the fire.
The $2.6 million home quickly became too much to handle.
“We had crews on the inside of the structure. We quickly realized we had to pull firefighters out and go into what we call defensive mode,” Garces told WPLG.
The owner, Carlos Valdes, is concerned that there may not be much to salvage.
“We are very nervous about this problem,” he said.
The fire is under investigation.
