Vancouver – Forestry officials say further 80 firefighters were expected to arrive on the front lines of B.C.’s largest forest fire on Wednesday. The Sleetsis Creek fire grew 50 per cent to cover an estimated 30 square kilometres on Tuesday.
The fire near Spences Bridge is burning in steep, rocky terrain, from an elevation of 300 metres to about 1,400 metres.
More than 80 firefighters spent the weekend making helicopter landing pads so other crews could get to the lines.
Seven helicopters are assisting in the effort. Although there is a substantial amount of smoke no structures are at risk.
Fire information officer Dean Fenn says firefighters had a somewhat easier time on Tuesday when winds died down.
