A rural Missouri fire department decided to poke fun at itself to drum up recruitment.
The Scott County Rural Fire Protection District posted a sign in front of one of its stations declaring, “Help wanted!! Hard labor, odd hours, low pay, cool helmet!!”
According to KFVS, the fire chief told the station the humor has actually driven in more traffic to the department’s Facebook page.
The department is about 15 firefighters short from being fully staffed, though the chief admits they rarely hit that level.
