DUBLIN, Ireland – In a strange and rare incident, Dublin firefighters were called on to rid a man of the most extreme pain imaginable – ironically from an object that is meant for pleasure.
According to reports, a man went to the Mater University Hospital in Dublin, complaining of pain and swelling – hours after he had put on a titanium ring on his private parts.
The man reportedly panicked after he could not get it off and rushed to the hospital.
Doctors said the man was suffering from the rare case of ‘penile strangulation’ but were not able to help him as the standard medical equipment would fail to cut off the penis ring, made of titanium, one of the hardest metals on earth.
Fire crews were immediately called and they are said to have used an angle grinder to cut the metal ring off of the man.
The man, who was sedated with a mixture of ketamine, fentanyl and propofol during the 20-minute procedure had made a full recovery, reports noted.
The incident was reportedly in the Irish Medical Journal, that explained that the ring was required to be removed ‘urgently’ as it could have led to ‘organ-threatening complications’.
According to the report, the ring was used to increase sexual performance.
Experts noted that penile strangulation, an extremely rare case worldwide, requires urgent treatment by medical experts as a loss of blood flow to the penis can lead in severe cases to amputation.
According to a 2013 study – in the last 200 years, only 120 cases have been reported in medical journals worldwide.
