Eight to 10 people were struck by a car near San Diego City College on Monday morning and the driver took off running, police said.
Police and paramedics responded to B and 14th streets shortly after 9 a.m., Officer Scott Lockwood said.
Several medics were called to tend to the victims. Lockwood said the driver ran off, but police have detained one person. It was not immediately clear whether it was the suspected driver.
“At around 9:05 a.m., the driver, a 71-year-old man, was driving westbound in the 1500 block of B Street when he veered onto a sidewalk, hitting several victims, police chief David Nisleit said,” according to Fox5.
The man, who identified himself to the police as the driver, tried to help the victims.
Officers detained the driver on suspicion of driving while impaired.
No further information was immediately available.
