NEW FRANKLIN — Lightning struck a home and started a fire in New Franklin Monday evening.

Firefighters were sent to a home in the 1000 block of Stump Road at about 5:50 p.m. Monday for a report of lightning striking a house, according to a news release from the New Franklin Fire Department.

A neighbor alerted the people in the home that their house had caught fire, and everyone was able to get out safely, the fire department said.

When firefighters responded, fire had spread along the outside wall and roof of the home. Several fire departments responded, and the fire was brought under control within about twenty minutes.

New Franklin Fire said the home had no working smoke detectors at the time.
