A paramedic for the Los Angeles County Fire Department pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to charges that he flew to Detroit in February to have sex with a 5-year-old girl. Brian L. Flaherty, 37, of Chino Hills, Calif., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Detroit to enticing a minor for sex and transporting child pornography. He faces the prospects of 11 1/4 -14 years in prison under a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The girl was the creation of an undercover Macomb County Sheriff’s Department detective who posed online as a mother was offering her children for sex. Flaherty was arrested when he got off the plane at Detroit Metro Airport.

He is to be sentenced Jan. 3 by U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen.
