Two girls were airlifted to hospital yesterday in critical condition after the vehicle they were in rolled several times southeast of Edmonton. At 10:50 a.m., RCMP were called to the rollover on Highway 12, near Halkirk, 232 km southeast of Edmonton.
The driver of the westbound vehicle passed a pickup truck, and upon pulling into his own lane, lost control and hit the ditch. The vehicle rolled several times.
Two girls in the vehicle were seriously injured, Mounties said, and were rushed to hospital in Edmonton by STARS air ambulance.
Three other people in the vehicle were treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Mounties said it appears speed and alcohol may have been factors in the accident.
