Former Ms. Vermont is now a firefighter, still competes in pageants

The Rutland City Fire Department currently has one female firefighter, and she just so happens to be a beauty queen.

Jenna Elliott was USA National Miss Vermont last year and says since she’s joined the department in September the vets have welcomed her with open arms.

According to the Rutland Herald, Elliott says she’s a daddy’s girl who would hang out with her father in the garage, so she doesn’t feel uncomfortable hanging around a bunch of men.

She started competing in pageants at the age of 14 but has put that side of her life on hold as she gets used to being a full-time firefighter.

Elliott trained for her new role by first becoming a volunteer firefighter for 18 months, before joining the department on a permanent basis last year.

She says she doesn’t expect special treatment from anyone and just wants to be “one of the guys” at the station.
