Firefighters rescued a dog from icy Flint Pond Friday morning

Just before 9:30 a.m., firefighters received a call about a dog that had fallen through the ice at the pond.

“We deployed the hovercraft with two firefighters,” said Capt. Frank Ludovico. “They were able to reach the dog with the hovercraft. One firefighter got into the water with the dog and was able to dog to bring dog back to the hovercraft, load it and reunite the dog with its owner back at the boat ramp.”

A hovercraft is a vessel that has a large fan that creates enough air for it to travel just above the surface of land, water or ice.

The dog appeared to be healthy but tired from being in the water, Ludovico said.

“The owner put it in his truck immediately and brought it to get checked and cleaned and warmed up,” he said.
