Investigators say the flames ripping through a house in SW Miami Dade were so intense, the temperatures so high that two firefighters, had to be pulled from the home after suffering minor burns.
According to WPLG, fire scorched much of the house Wednesday afternoon. Their choppers were over the scene just before 6pm as firefighters “pulled one of their own from the home and ripped off his jacket and shirt.”
An 11-year old across the street was able to capture home video as flames shot from the roof of the house and smoke billowed. “I don't know if the people are still there,” the boy told Local 10.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Arnold Piedrahita said, “The heat and flames were so intense, the two firefighters suffered burns, despite their protective gear. “
Neighbors feared the worst when they saw the intense smoke and flames. “They're elderly. They've been living there for a long time and I know that sometimes they're alone,” neighbor Rocio Lesa said.
The couple who lives at the house was rescued, and their two dogs also made it out alive, according to Local 10’s report.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said 14 crews were sent to the scene. They believe the blaze started somewhere in the kitchen.
