An Old Mystic volunteer firefighter who was booted out of the department this week over sexual-harassment charges was arrested Thursday and charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old female member of the department this summer.
Chad M. Lehofer, 20, of 202 Deerfield Ridge Drive, was charged with second-degree sexual assault, third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a minor. He was being held on a $75,000 bond Thursday night and was scheduled to appear today in New London Superior Court. The warrant for his arrest has been sealed.
Meanwhile, two other Old Mystic volunteer firefighters have resigned amid allegations that they had sex in a department bunkroom, according to Lehofer and Fire Chief Ken Richards.
Last week, Lehofer spoke openly about the charges against him and the other two firefighters, complaining that they were unfairly being drummed out of the department.
Jim Dole, a friend of Lehofer’s, and Heidi Lajoie, Lehofer’s girlfriend, resigned from the department after being charged with breaking a department rule that prohibits members of the opposite sex from being in a bunkroom together and for engaging in conduct unbecoming a department member on department property.
