A 31-year-old Colorado firefighter who died of cancer over the weekend will continue to serve as an organ donor, according to local sources.
Firefighter Cody Mooney was honored in Littleton after losing his fight with an aggressive brain tumor, surrounded by family, friends and comrades as they wheeled his body away to collect his organs.
“Cody was taken from this world too soon,” South Metro Fire Rescue said in a tweet. “South Metro personnel are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Cody and will continue to support his family through this difficult time.”
According to CNN, the South Metro firefighter began his fight with cancer in 2017, but had not been admitted to surgery until two weeks ago. He succumbed to complications sustained from the procedure.
Mooney leaves behind a wife and four children, as well as one on the way.
