Firefighter jumps into frozen lake to rescue runaway dog

A Bozeman Firefighter is being called a hero for jumping into a freezing lake and pulling a dog to dry land after it tried to walk across the partially frozen body of water.

According to the Fire Department’s Facebook page, the owner lost their grip on Mingus’ lease. He then ran out onto the frozen pond, which has been thawing due to the changing of the seasons, and then fell in when the ice broke beneath his feet.

Firefighters were deployed to the lake quickly and withing a minute of arriving on scene one of them had put on an ice rescue suit and jump into the water.

The firefighter was able to then help Mingus up on some ice htat had not broken, put a leash on the dog, and get him to land.

Mingus thankfully was only cold and wet.
