Firefighter dies of injuries sustained in fire

LODD – An Atlanta firefighter has died of injuries sustained fighting a house fire on Thanksgiving night. Officials say firefighter Steven Solomon died early today in Grady Memorial Hospital's burn unit. Atlanta Fire Chief Dennis Rubin called Solomon “a hero” and “one of Atlanta's bravest firefighters.”

He was injured fighting a house fire in northwest Atlanta that investigators determined was sparked by an unattended candle left by homeless people staying in the unoccupied house.

Solomon had been with the Atlanta Fire Department for about four months. He joined the department after nearly six years with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.
