A firefighter is dead after falling to his death while trying to turn off a billboard in Mexico City, Mexico.

Fireman Alvaro Jimenez Gonzalez died after climbing up onto the huge screen to try and stop it from showing a clip from a pornographic film.

According to a story published by Metro UK, Gonzalez was worried the explicit footage would cause an accident because motorists were slowing down to stare and take pictures, creating hazardous conditions on the road.

Daily Mail reports that while Gonzalez was trying to disable to sign, he lost his footing and fell to his death.

Firefighters were called amidst fears that motorists on a nearby motorway would be distracted from the road by the smutty video.

Carteleras, the company that owns the billboard, apologized to anyone who had seen the video after it began playing on a loop next to the busy highway.

“We know the discomfort this caused to passersby, drivers and society in general,” the spokesman said. “Therefore we are investigating the case with authorities.”

Drivers on the nearby Periferico Sur motorway were surprised to see the revealing images of a woman writhing with a sex toy between her legs.

One motorist used his mobile phone to record the giant advertisement panel as it displayed the pornographic material, reports Daily Mail.

The footage went viral on social media networks and the authorities scrambled to turn off the screen.

The deceased firefighter’s brigade director regrets Gonzalez’s death.

“We regret the death of our pal Alvaro Jimenez Gonzalez from the fire brigade,” said Brigade Director Raul Esquivel. “All the support of our institution and of the government of Mexico will go to the family of our friend.”

Mexican authorities have reached out to the billboard company asking them to increase security measures so this type of thing doesn’t happen again. Daily Mail reports this isn’t the first time hackers have been able to breach the system and start playing pornographic images.

In February, the menu of a porn website was seen on another billboard on the same highway, however, it was hacked at night and there weren’t many drivers on the highway, according to reporting from Daily Mail.
