On Friday afternoon March 31st 2006 around 1500hrs, E311 was alerted for the mulch fire at the KFC-Taco Bell on Spectrum Drive. Upon the arrival of E311 they found smoke showing from the building and requested the box be filled. Box alarm 31-19 was sounded and moments later E311 requested the second alarm, reporting they now had fire through the roof.
Interior crews found smoke in the building and began hooking ceiling in an attempt to find fire in the cockloft. The evacuation tones were sounded and interior crews were removed from the structure, due to the amount of fire on the roof and the possibility of a collapse. Ladder pipes were put into place and knocked the fire down rather quickly. Crews operated on scene for several hours with overhaul and units began clearing around 1730.
