Fire engine crashes into ambulance, both on emergency calls

A fire engine and an ambulance carrying a patient crashed into each other while both were on their way to emergency calls.

According to ABC-NY, the engine t-boned the ambulance on Thursday night. The result of the crash killed the patient, seriously injured the patient’s family member, and injured eight first responders.

The engine had been dispatched to a structure fire in Brooklyn, while the ambulance was transporting the patient and a family member to a nearby hospital.

Both emergency vehicles had their light and sirens on, and the intersection was clear of traffic as they both entered the intersection.

The two EMTs in the ambulance were taken to the local hospital. The six firefighters were evaluated on scene, but none of the injuries were considered serious.

An investigation into the crash has been launched.
