A driver who crashed into a transformer pole Tuesday night in Boston “was miraculously able to escape” from their car before it burst into flames, officials said.
The person crashed into a transformer pole near the intersection of New England and Southern avenues in Dorchester, according to a series of tweets from the Boston Fire Department.
The collision caused the pole to dislodge from the ground and topple onto the car and a nearby fence. Live power lines were also knocked over, the tweets said.
In a photograph posted by the department, the car can be seen completely engulfed in flames. Another picture shows firefighters putting out the blaze through plumes of smoke.
Crews from Eversource were able to shut down the power lines so first responders could extinguish the fire. The incident remains under investigation.
Authorities did not say at what time the crash occurred.
