Former Orange County battalion chief Darien Butler had an affair with a 911 dispatcher last year, which cost him three ranks and $20,000 in salary, but now may be moved back to his old position after good work and behavior.
According to WFTV, Butler and Kimberly Noe had a torrid affair that included rendezvous at the Orange County Fire Department headquarters and station.
Investigators found Noe used the 911 dispatch center to send thousands of messages to Butler to schedule the sexual encounters.
During the investigation, Butler admitted to the affair while Noe lied and denied it.
Butler was demoted three positions and saw his pay cut by $20,000, though an arbitrator ruled that his punishment was too harsh and instead was pushed down to captain.
Noe was not fired and instead was suspended 10 shifts for the inappropriate workplace romance.
The county still has to give Butler back pay, which is still being calculated.
