Fresno Police are investigating if heat played a role in the near death of two children Wednesday afternoon. The four and two year old children were found unconscious in the back seat of a car on Maple and Nevada in East Central Fresno. Witnesses describe a frantic situation moments after family members found a little boy and a girl unconscious in back of a car
“When the family first got there, they were panicking. They called 9-1-1 and the mom was emotional,” said Joey Miranda, witness.
Police say the children were at home with their father. But firefighters say when the father woke up from a nap, the children were nowhere to be found.
Authorities says the father later found the children in the car, possibly unconscious from the heat.
“You would be surprised from the number of calls we get in a month about kids left in a car unattended while parents are running errands, its not uncommon. But for children to get into the car on their own is unusual,” said Lt. Mike Guthrie, Fresno Police.
After performing CPR, firefighters say they were able to get a pulse on the boy but not the girl before they were taken to the hospital.
Their condition is not know.
