A man is dead and now the Chicago Fire Department has declared the fire that took his life as arson.
According to WGN, firefighters saw the second floor of a four-story building in flames when they arrived at the East Chatham building on Saturday morning.
Firefighters found a man in his 50s in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.
One woman living in the building was able to escape, “I was sitting up in my bed playing my game and I heard this smoke alarm going off,” she said. “I thought it was in the kitchen, so I told my husband, ‘Your smoke alarm is going of.’ He ran and he said the building is on fire and we ran to the door and the whole hallway was engulfed in flames.”
The fire nor police department have any new information on possible suspects or motive.
