A California firefighter has been named the world’s strongest after beating out other competitors at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival in Santa Monica over the weekend.

Kern County engineer Ben Gallaher was given a ceremonial ax for a trophy for claiming the title.

According to KGET, Gallaher beat out other firefighters from the U.S. and the world.

He said after the win, “Working for the fire department, it’s important for us to stay in shape. To be a good example for the communities we serve and the people I work with, it’s important to push physical fitness.”

The event is the largest multi-sport event in the world. This year, approximately 22,000 athletes from 80 nations competed in more than 80 sports and events.
