Building was engulfed by the time fire crews arrived

Bellinzona was an Edwardian Timber Guest House in Hepburn Springs, Victoria, Australia. Hepburn Springs is a small town with a volunteer fire service trained primarily for bushfire and minor domestic incidents. It was a hot day for November – around 30 deg cel.

The fire started in mulch and burnt along under the building and then flashed over. The building was fully engulfed by the time the fire crew arrived from across the road at the station. The surrounding area was threatened and most spot fires were put out by residents and volunteers in the forested gully (fuel has not reached a dry state luckily).

A neighboring property slowly smoldered for 30 mins before a fire resource could be provided and unfortunately another heritage building was lost due to the time delay. I live opposite and although it felt goulish I recorded the day from the first flashover boom to the end and provided the film to the CFA fire investigators which did assist in understanding the origins and spread of the fire.
