At least 15 people were killed in a fiery two-vehicle crash Tuesday near the border with Mexico in Southern California, hospital officials said.
The circumstances involving the crash were still unclear, but the El Centro Regional Medical Center said the wreck involved an SUV and a semi-truck that was carrying gravel.
Fourteen victims were pronounced dead at the scene and another died upon arrival at the hospital, officials said.
The crash happened on a road near State Route 115 in Imperial County. A California Highway Patrol officer told CNN that the SUV was heading westbound when it traveled “in the direct path” of the truck on a northbound lane.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
