
Update: At least three people have died after an Amtrak train collided with a dump truck, causing the train to be derailed.
The collision occured at an “uncontrolled crossing” that had no lights or electronic devices, said Cpl. Justin Dunn of the Missouri State Highway Patrol at a press conference.
Seven of the eight Amtrak cars were derailed during the accident.
Two people inside the train cars died and one person that was inside the dump truck, he said.

Injuries were reported when an Amtrak train that was heading to Chicago from Los Angeles with about 243 passengers derailed in Missouri Monday afternoon, Amtrak said in a statement.
Several train cars derailed after hitting a dump truck at a public crossing in Mendon, Missouri, about 1:40 p.m., according to the statement from Amtrak. Local authorities are assisting Amtrak employees on the scene.
Mendon is about 84 miles northeast of Kansas City.
