Nov. 11—STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A large number of police and fire personnel responded to the Amazon complex in Bloomfield on Friday morning.
The FDNY was summoned to the facility on a report that fire alarms were activated, according to a source with knowledge of the incident.
A total of 10 people were evaluated at the scene, with eight of those individuals refusing medical attention and two people being transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.
One person of interest was taken into custody after police were called to the facility around 6:07 a.m. at 546 Gulf Ave., according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
Crowd control was requested after a fire alarm was pulled during a dispute, according to very preliminary information provided to the spokeswoman.
About 2,000 employees were evacuated, the police spokeswoman said.
A large number of day-shift employees were standing outside the facility waiting to start their work day.
At least three ambulances responded and employees were seen walking in and out of the emergency vehicles, apparently being evaluated at the scene.
A day-shift employee said he didn’t mind waiting outside since he and his co-workers were being paid during the emergency response. He was told that emergency responders and supervisors at the facility were making sure that it was safe before letting employees enter the facility.
More information will be published when it becomes available.
