Twelve-hundred pigs met their fiery demise in Minnesota Tuesday night after two barns owned by a pork company caught fire in Renville County.

The incident was reported to emergency services two hours before midnight and took place at the Ten Brook Pork farm.

According to the West Central Tribune, both structures were effectively destroyed before the fire department could even arrive.

Around 500 sows and 700 hogs were killed. Despite being unable to stop the death of the pigs, the fire department managed to protect other barns on the property.

The fire is under investigation.
